What the Youth program is

Forty-five minutes, twice a week, designed specifically for ages 9 to 11.

Whether they’re beginning martial arts for the first time or continuing their training, the Youth Program meets students where they are and gives them the opportunity to develop their skills, confidence and independence within a curriculum designed specifically for this stage of their development.

At this age, students are ready for greater complexity in both what they learn and how they learn it. The martial arts curriculum expands to include more advanced blocking, striking and kicking, along with practical self-defense, takedowns, containment and joint locks. Students also begin working more frequently with partners, learning control, awareness, cooperation and trust through carefully structured training.

As their physical skills become more advanced, so does the personal growth we ask of them. Students are encouraged to think more independently, take greater ownership of their choices and training, develop stronger self-awareness and begin recognizing the kind of leader they can become, both on and off the mat.

What a class looks like

Youth classes balance increasingly challenging martial arts with the structure, support and individual attention students still need at this age. Students work both independently and with partners, developing their technique, applying what they’ve learned and gaining a deeper understanding of the purpose behind their training.

As their world gets bigger, so do the situations they’re learning to navigate. Friendships, peer pressure, conflict and increasingly complex social dynamics become more relevant at this age. Our training gives students opportunities to develop confidence, awareness, good judgment and the ability to make choices that reflect who they are and what they value.

Life skills continue to be woven throughout the curriculum, but the conversations grow with our students. We encourage them to think more deeply, ask questions, understand different perspectives and begin recognizing the impact their choices have on themselves and the people around them.

Whether a student has been training with us for years or is stepping onto the mat for the very first time, they are welcomed and supported exactly where they are. Many of our Youth students have grown through our younger programs, and watching them continue their journey year after year is one of the things we’re most proud of.

This place is so much more than just a school, it’s a community and a family. Through her teaching and guidance my son has developed a set of skills that he will carry with him for the rest of his life. They are kind, patient and knowledgeable. I can’t say enough positive things about this place.
