Kids Martial Arts in Forked River, Ages 6 to 8
Growing Skills. Growing Confidence.
What the Kids program is
Thirty minutes, twice a week, designed specifically for ages 6 to 8.
The Kids Program is where students begin to take greater ownership of their martial arts journey. At this age, they’re ready for more. More responsibility, more independence and a deeper understanding of both what they’re learning and why.
Students begin as white belts and enter our formal ranking system, with a curriculum designed to build progressively as they grow. They continue developing their martial arts skills through blocking, striking, kicking, self-defense and other age-appropriate techniques, while learning to understand, remember and take responsibility for the material required at each level.
Just as importantly, the life skills grow with them. Confidence, respect, self-control, perseverance, responsibility and leadership are explored in ways that are meaningful and relevant to this stage of their development. We’re not simply asking students to follow directions, we’re beginning to help them understand their choices, recognize what they’re capable of and take pride in their own growth.

What they gain
Ranking
Meaningful goals, visible progress and a growing sense of pride in what they earn along the way.
Responsibility
Learning to take ownership of their curriculum, their effort and their progress.
Self-defense
Practical, age-appropriate skills that build awareness, control and the ability to respond with confidence.
Confidence
Recognizing what they’re capable of and learning to trust themselves.

What a class looks like
Classes follow a consistent structure that gives students the familiarity they still benefit from at this age, while introducing greater independence and responsibility as they grow. Students work with others at a similar rank and experience level, allowing instruction to meet them where they are while continuing to challenge them as their skills develop.
The martial arts curriculum becomes more detailed and progressive at this level. Students build on their blocking, striking and kicking skills while developing practical, age-appropriate self-defense techniques. As they advance, they’re expected to know more, understand more and gradually take greater ownership of their training.
Life skills are woven throughout the training, giving students opportunities to practice confidence, respect, self-control, perseverance, responsibility and leadership, and begin carrying those lessons beyond the mat.
New students receive plenty of individual attention as they get comfortable with the class, learn the fundamentals and begin working through the curriculum. We meet each student where they are and give them the support, encouragement and challenge they need to progress at their own pace.

What families say
I can honestly say that this place changed my seven year old grandson’s life. He started as a very very shy little boy. Master Melissa and her staff are the best. My little boy has come out of his shell and is showing so much more confidence. They not only teach karate but also basic life lessons which are invaluable.
Theresa Valenti
Melissa has an ability to connect with children, keep their attention, and make learning both fun and engaging. Her patience, encouragement and teaching style have helped my daughter grow not only in martial arts but in confidence. She is truly one of those special instructors who leaves a lasting impact on the children she teaches.

Start with three classes
One class tells you very little. Three tells you whether it fits. You get a proper look at the program and the uniform is yours to keep. It is worth $95 on its own, and if you decide to enrol it is not an extra cost on top.
